In the coming days I will be compiling a seven stage journal of beauty through the ages, starting with 1940’s & using Jane Iredale Skin Care Make-Up products and techniques necessary to use them, with idols of the time to guide you through the looks and styling.

For the 1940’s we will keep make-up stark yet simple and Jane Iredale’s Skincare line will help us to achieve this. For inspiration take a look at our girl Rita Hayworth! Dita Von Teese still swears by 1940’s glamour, by keeping her make-up simple yet ever so sexy with letter box red lips. We particularly love how contemporary she makes the look, so you can too! The theme of this look is sheer classic glam.

Red nails are an essential, we stock a full Jessica nail care range here at Heaven, so come in and take a look! As the make-up is fairly simple, all relying on beautiful skin and precision I think a Primer should be used before a foundation. Jane Iredale’s Absence Oil Control Primer SPF 15 will make skin look stunning when applied with a sponge or brush, it creates a solid smudge free base for the foundation to sit on. Next is eyes, a black eyeliner should always frame the eyes (Jane Iredale Basic Black Liner), and to give the 1940’s edge we love Jane Iredale Triple Shadow in Triple Cognac. These classic shades will give you sumptuous yet simple eyes when blended around the black frame of the eye. Lips should be matte, no lip gloss in sight! So try Jane Iredale best selling lip colour Carrie, you will adore it!
And there you have it, movie star glamour!

Winged black smokey eyes were a hit in Milan earlier this month, the shape was crucial with high feline influences. The look is versatile as it can be played down for the day with thinner black frames around the eyes and smaller cat flicks, or for the night in true glamazon style!
Maxmara’s Tom Pecheux blended inky shadows of black creating a thick straight line, rather than using a simple eye pencil I would advise a Jane Iredale Cream to Powder Eyeliner in Black Plus. This can be used as a block colour and also as a blending tool, fabulous for Tom’s beautiful eyes. He also added gold highlight in the corners, Jane Iredale’s 24K Dust in Gold is perfect for this. Photos show the effects were almost sci-fi like!

Blumarine used a deep chocolate liner to frame the eye. Brown offers a great alternative that is less intense to black and brown is a great shade for most, I love Jane Iredale’s Basic Brown Eyeliner and to blend the cat eye a deep mocha; try Jane Iredale Single Press Eye Shadow in Deep Suede.

DSQUARED2 used a carbon shadow, this time with extra elongation into the temples creating a a stunning cat-like effect. For this Jane Iredale Basic Black Eyeliner should be used for a thick frame and then a black eye shadow for extra shading, taking the flick out around 1 and half to 2 cm for the perfect DSQUARED2 look!

The Founding of He-Shi
In today’s tanning obsessed culture, fake tans are without doubt an important element in most women’s beauty regimes. He-Shi’s collection of ‘at home tanning’ products are easy to use and very accessible and offer women the chance to be bronzed in gloomy January to a pre holiday tan in July! Since its all female launch in 2004 (founders Hilary & Shelley McMurray, He-Shi’s awards have been endless and press coverage extensive. Better yet He-Shi is different from other tanning products, it tans the skin on contact making it easier than ever to avoid streaking, its odourless and is a liquid…so it dries quickly too.

He-Shi Press
He-shi has taken the beauty industry by storm in the last year alone with coverage in over 45 editorials! Make-up artists and stylists alike love the natural colour, sweet rose scent and easy application. What I found particularly great about He-Shi is how it tints your skin, working with your own pigmentation. Most other tans on the market simply create a brown and in worst case scenario’s orange mask over the skin. Whether you have dark or light skin He-Shi will work for you.
Most recently He-Shi has featured in Augusts Observer monthly magazine, in the Best Olive Tan’s according to their beauty writer Alice Hart-Davis. He-Shi Express Tan was also well documented in The Salon Magazine as one of their best buys in fake tanning. The Sunday Express shortlisted the He-Shi Bronzer and again in August Elle’s editorial named Beauty Notes rated He-Shi Day to Day Gradual Tan very highly!
Earlier in this year in an April Grazia issue, He-Shi’s Express Tan £20 won a place in their “Barely there’s” feature devoted to fake tans that could look natural on even the paler skin types. While in July both Now and Grazia agreed saying it was perfect for the Pixie Lott’s and Kirsten Dunst’s of us who aren’t blessed with Brazilian skin! Most prestigious yet, Vogue beauty writer James Read said He-Shi was the “best fake tan for paler skin” in August’s issue, whilst in Stella’s May issue fashion designer Jenny Packham gave the He-shi express facial tanning gel (£12.50) a place in her make-up bag!
Not only has the fake tan range impressed us, but the He-Shi Bronzer and Kabuki Bronzer Brush caught Prima’s eye and featured in the He-Shi Bronzer in their “best bronzer’s” article in the August issue. Cosmo also loved the cheaper price tag of the He-Shi Facial Tanning Gel (£14.50) as did the Sunday Express!
He-Shi’s awards speak for themselves! He-Shi’s Day to Day Gradual tan won an Image Beauty Award this year, also winning a Cosmopolitan Beauty Award at their Kensington Roof Garden awards night in July. In addition to this He-Shi has taken the Best Fake Tan award in the European Products Awards.
All in all, He-Shi is new generation tanning & we love their recent line extensions, including a He-Shi One day Wash Off, He-Shi Tanning Mit, He-Shi Souffle Moisturiser, He-Shi Exfoliating Body Wash.
We stock a full line of He-Shi products, click on the product links on this page to be directed straight to the Heaven-Spa shop.

Cosmopolitan’s recent September issue has some great looks, that are manageable and easy to create, here’s today’s step by step guide through my favourite hair look’s this month using our best sellers the Tigi Love Peave and Planet range and Marrakesh Oil!
Side Swept Hair
Sarah Jessica Parker looks great with this style, usually styling it up with a huge corsage or hair accessory!

- Once hair is freshly washed style with curling tongs and a little Tigi Rockaholic Fun Times Flexible Hairspray. This is great for this style as it provides great hold but your curls will still have movement.
- Next gather all your hair to one side (i always try and gather mine on my best photo side!) and secure with pins.
- To finish the look you could create a slight side quiff, giving your hair volume for extra glamour. Finish with the old faithful Marrakesh Oil.
Slept in Hair
Beach hair is not just a summer look, un-kept and natural surfer girl hair is said to be fabulous for the coming months. Think Ivy from 90210, Gossip Girl Blake Lively and from time to time Sienna Miller. Surely an excuse to embrace not doing much to your hair should be a good thing? Cosmopolitan love it and so does Emilio Pucci and Marc Jacobs. His recent New York Autumn Winter show presented golden haired natural beauties with natural sleep-over styling. We <3 how easy it is!
- Part hair in the middle using fingers and spray Tigi Love Peace Planet Free your Mind Hard Holdspray into the parting to create texture.
- For extra waves I find twisting hair round my fingers and curling the hair into a mini bun on my head effective. Clip them in for 5 minutes and quickly blast with a hairdryer.
- Take the clips out and you’ll be a Californian girl!

The question of whether or not to go under the knife is not uncommon with most 21st century females, but high risk and high cost, means the answer is no for many. Earlier this year glossy fashion magazine Marie Claire claimed Dr.Lewinns offered a very real alternative. The extensive range is designed to combat ageing and skin damage.
So much so that Line Smoothing Complex has won awards at Marie Claire. Whilst Ultra R4 has won anti-ageing awards as Home and Garden. Earlier this year Dr.Lewinn’s skincare was referred to by Marie Claire as the “answer to surgery”.
So make a real investment that will truly benefit your skin without the risk and high price tag! If you’re confused or want some advice about improving your skin and fighting skin ageing, come in for a consultation with our beauty therapists!

We stock a full range of Dr.Lewinns products here at HeavenSPA. (Click on the link to browse)

Let it go for the last few weeks of the summer and go wild with your lips! Orlando’s girl & Victoria’s Secret Model Miranda Kerr knows how to do it as we recently saw at the ESPY awards!

We’ve also seen glamazon lips on the catwalks of Alberta Ferretti and Armani. L’Oreal’s Polly Osmond says a statement lipstick can say so much about you and can make a cheap outfit look designer!

Heaven loves…

Jane Iredale Bridget – deep pink
Jane Iredale Susan – Barbie Pink
Jane Iredale Carrie (Best Seller) – Hollywood Red

Eva always looks particularly beautiful and radiant, so who better to use as our muse of the week for the perfect olive skinned goddess look!

Eva usually goes for a dewy moist base so a tinted moisturiser is best for this. Try Jane Iredale’s Dream Tint (£29.95), it has an SPF 20 and gives great coverage without the opaque finish foundations give. For the cheeks, darker skin tones should opt for an orange shade blush, to create definition, they already have the depth in colour, any more will look far too over done. For this I think Moonglow is great! (£39.95) Next we look at Eva’s eyes, it may come as a shock to many but bronzes and golds aren’t great for olive skin tones, rusty coppers are best on the eyelids. Eva uses shades similar to the Triple Shadow pallet of Pecan Chocolate (£25). Finally lips should be understated, either a clear gloss (Just Gloss is divine £15), but if you are feeling a little more adventurous try a purple shade, Eva does this every so often and we just love it. Jane Iredale’s Pure Moist Sharon at £15 is just purple enough to plump the lips without being drag-like!

It seems this season we will wave good bye to the classic black smokey eye! But do not fret, a more fresh & this time popping purple smokey eye has replaced our old faithful. Michael Kors make-up artists and stylists love this new shade, informing us its a great eye opener and even anti-ages, as the purple pigment cancels out red puffy eyes and brightens the eyes! (Purple is most yummy for green eyed girls in particular!)
To achieve this look, its best to use a purple coloured eye pallet so a few shades of purple are used, this way you don’t get a monochrome purple finish, you can create depth. Jane Iredale’s Triple Eye Shadow £25 in Cloud Nine is lovely. The best make-up tool really is your finger, as it can create great blending. Alternatively if you prefer your tools, try Jane Iredale’s crease brush at £13. I personally use a black kohl eyeliner (Jane Iredale Basic Black eyeliner £8) to frame my eye from tear duct into cat eye to frame my eye. This makes your eyes defined with a solid frame.

In the summer months our complexions are assaulted by UV rays and exhaust fumes, they react to free radicals that age the skin and eat away at skins vitamins. It should be paramount for us all to wear a good SPF level all the year round but even more so for those sex and the city breaks in the sun! To keep skin healthy, protected and fresh stick to these simple rules.
Always apply a primer to ensure your make-up stays in place. Primers also create a good clean canvas in which to apply your base and Jane Iredale’s Absence is great (£33). City environments clog pores and create oil on the surface of your skin that can cause your skin to become patchy.

Next a good oil free tinted moisturizer, for this try Dream Tint (£29.95). Tinted moisturizers are ideal for the summer months, keeping your face dewy and glowing. Better still Dream Tint comes with an SPF 15!

Carrying blotting papers £9.50 can be a great trick to minimize oil around your t-zone without having to completely re-apply make-up.

3 truly amazing Jane Iredale products are facial spritz D20, Pommisst and facial spritz Balance. D20 sets the minerals in the dream tint moisturizer and has the most incredible scent of ylang ylang, whilst Pommisst soothes and uplifts the face. Balance is a great option if you have oily skin as it too sets the minerals in dream tint whilst preventing break outs.

All products are available at the Didsbury store and online, so enjoy your city skin!

Monthly magazine Top Sante loves Aragan Oil- found in our very own Marrakesh Oil…

The oil is produced from the Kernels of the Moroccan Aragan Tree and is packed full of fatty Acids and vitamin E. Aragan Oil is the main ingredient of Marrakesh Oil £19.95 and it really is a multi-tasking wonder! It’s great as a hair serum, as it doesn’t leave any grease, it can also be rubbed into cuticles to soften them up and is fantastic when rubbed onto the dry areas of your skin. The oil soothes, softens, nourishes and rejuvenates tired looking skin, hair and nails. It’s also great for treating eczema, psoriasis and acne.
