Five Jane Iredale mineral make-up products have been recommended as effective UV sunscreens, receiving the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation.

The Seal of Recommendation is a standard for helping to ensure the safety and efficacy of UV protection products. The five Jane Iredale products with the Seal include Amazing Base, PurePressed Base, Dream Tint, LipDrink and Powder-Me SPF in Translucent and Powder-Me Tanned. These products, which range from SPF of 15 to 30, are now recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation as effective aids in the prevention of sun-induced damage to the skin, including sunburn and possibly premature ageing.

The Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation has set the criteria for effective UV protection for more than 30 years. Products were evaluated by the Foundation’s Photobiology Committee, composed of leading US dermatologists who are experts on how the sun interacts with the skin.

Jane Iredale from Iredale Mineral Cosmetics said: “About 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to UV rays, so we are thrilled to receive The Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation in an effort to help spread awareness on preventable measures against this deadly disease.

“We are not only committed to developing quality products to enhance colour, but also the overall health of the skin – including skin cancer prevention.”

Skin Cancer is on the increase so we need to take action and protect ourselves.  Here are some ways to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays:

• Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
• Do not burn.
• Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
• Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day.
• Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside.
• Reapply every two hours, or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
• Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens should be used on babies over the age of six months.
• Examine your skin head-to-toe every month, and see a doctor if you notice something unusual
• Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths and sunbeds

Here at HeavenSpa we have always been fake tan crazy like the rest of the country, but recently we have made some additions to our already extensive fake tan retail line- and here’s a low down on each product!

At number One… St.Tropez;  a firm industry favorite we haven’t stopped loving the King of the Fake Tan. Easy to apply, with a new improved smell St Tropez is both an effective skin tanner and skin moisturizer. Prices range from £18-30 and are 100% worth it as they are so long-lasting. (I bought a mousse in January and its only just finished!)

Number Two… He-Shi; slightly cheaper at £20 He-Shi is somewhat of a secret still but we love its easy application and dark intense tan! The range includes an exfoliator a must pre-tan, a “liquid tan” and a “souffle” option both to be applied with a mitt (free of charge!) and the “Gold Glitter Spray” can be applied over the tan for a night out or special occasion. We love He-Shi and so will you!

Number Three…Fake Bake, we offer 4 different types “FairTan” £22.00 for those blondes and red heads among you this tan matches your lighter skin tone and give you a golden glow without the “umpalumpa effect”!  The “Orginal Tan” £25.00 slightly darker for those of you who want a more Mediterranean tan, if you want a more intense tan go for the “extreme” £27.00 (my personal fave), very dark and mud-like this tan is fab!  You can use it as an instant if you forget to do a night before tan and it develops too!  Make sure you wear mitts though, it stains the palms as it is so dark! Alternatively if you prefer a mousse application then go for the “Mousse Tan” at £24.00 which is a little easier to apply.  They all smell sugary sweet just like Sherbet!

Number Four…Dr.Lewinns is a revolution in skincare!  An ex plastic surgeon his skin-care products are straight from the lab and are primarily for anti-ageing, however “Sunless” is the best self-tan moisturisers on the market in our opinion at just £15.00!  After trying many leading retail names, Dr.Lewinns is leaps and bounds ahead of the pack!  The aloe vera scent is fab and it makes skin smooth and soft.  Used by the Victoria’s Secret style team!  So get the Alessandra Ambrosio look!

Number Five…Nuxe Paris is a more luxurious fake tan option, with more emphasis on specifically skincare and the maintenance of skincare. “Soleil Prodigieux” comes as a face tan or body lotion and is a 4 in 1 tanner!  It self-tans, tan-activates whilst also moisturising and protecting from sun damage.  Nuxe is the best option if you want a fake tan and a sun protector.  The “teint ultra prodigeux” offers an instant bronze colour in 2 shades illuminating and smoothing the skin.

With such a wide variety of tanning options you shouldn’t struggle to find one that suits you!

Simon Coverdale has returned to Heaven Spa as Styling Director. Simon worked at Heaven Spa for 4 years and then left to go traveling. The wonderer has now returned and we’re delighted to have him back!

Simon has 20 years hairdressing experience. He trained at Vidal Sassoon and worked for them for many years as a qualified hair stylist. From there he worked for Andrew Collinge for a couple of years and then he moved to Urban Retreat at Harvey Nicks.

This impressive hairdressing pedigree means that you can be certain he knows what he is doing with your crowning glory! Finding a decent hairdresser in Manchester can sometimes be difficult and we often rely on word of mouth or recommendations from a friend.
