Muse of the Week- Jessica Alba

September 2nd, 2010 by Cath

Jessica Alba looked stunning this week at the Venice Film festival in a contemporary style ball gown/mini dress! She quickly swoped into an equally beautiful Dolce and Gabana Black and Red floral dress for her press conference for new film Machete. So overall it was a well-groomed and excellently dressed day for Jessica.

Her hair caramel gold, was styled into an elegant yet young and fresh bun! For any bun remember freshly washed hair is best and a good paddel brush to give the hair a little volume to the bun is a decent size. Smaller buns age the face and are not glam at all! A great holding spray for any up-do is Wella High Hair Crystal Styler, this is great as it gives only light hold so the hair is still flexible and has movement.

For dazzling red carpet eye make-up try Jane Iredale 24 Karat Pots! They come in 7 electric shades from Aquamarine to a soft champagne and will remain a make-up bag fave for months and months – they seem to never run out!

Jess is always bronzed so why not try our He-Shi fake tan range for an easily apply-able and natural looking bronzed tan! Also He-Shi has just won the 2010 Prudence Award for best Gradual Tanning System! If you prefer a deeper tan, try our  Xen-Tan range. This is a brand new line recently added to www.heaven-spa.co.uk and is fabulous for those of you with a great natural skin colour already, the tan is a deep brown making application fast. (The mitts are the best mitts too, the velvetty fabric makes application soft and even, so opt for one of these fast!)

7 decades of Glamour- 1970’s

August 27th, 2010 by Cath

The 1970’s saw the maxi dress, the emergence of the tru boho and the age of disco, which brought with it jumpsuits and glitter! Eyebrows were skinny and lips were glossy. Colours were pastel shades of blue, purple and green, monochrome was gone and softer palletes were hot. Where pastels weren’t used, colour was kept natural and bohemian, this was the first time natural beauty and minimal make-up had really been embraced.

Maud adams is a true 70’s beauty queen, the first and only woman to have the honour of being a bond girl twice! In 1974 In the Man with the Golden Gun and 1983 Octupussy. Her make-up and hair is barely there, yet she looks glamourous all the same, tans in this era were real real real and hair was beachy all the year round.

Today Nicole Ritchie still reps a cool and edgy 70s style that has kept her on the best dressed pages of magazines for years! Her over sized shades and looser clothing, with boho accesories makes her styling effortlessly cool and timeless.

  • A fresh looking natural base is J0ane Iredale’s Dream Tint, one of the best jane Iredael products is Dream Tint Lilac Brightner. This should be applied to cheekbones and just below your eyebrows to highlight higher areas on the face, it creates a great base for the dream tint to sit on. Foundations are best left for this look, as we want skin to be soft, luminious and natural looking.
  • If you want to give some pastels a try; Jane Iredale’s Sea Foam for greens and blues or Pink Bliss for purpley pink. These are great for 70s whispy eyes, as the pallete has 3 shades, so blending should be easy. If you would rather keep eyes more skin tonal, try Jane Iredale’s Sweet spot, and focus on a gleaming and stunning complexion.
  • Similar to 60s lips, glosses were still great on plumped up lips, this time with hints of colour. Jane Iredale’s Sugar plump in Madrid will plump lips with a purple colour. Puregloss in sugar plum is beautiful when worn over the top. Again if maud is more your kinda girl try Just Kissed lip plumper in Milan, this is closer to natural skin tone and is best used without a gloss, just keep it simple.

7 Decades of Glamour- 1960’s

August 26th, 2010 by Cath

This was the decade where being a woman changed forever. This was the dawn of the sexual revolution, the swinging sixties. Girls were skinny minny’s, the voluptuous movie star figure of the 1940’s and 50’s had been replaced with something entirely different; the supermodel was born! Make-up was monochrome, eyes were big and black. In a change from 20 years past, styling was now far simpler, colour was rarely used, instead nude and creme tones were teamed with the iconic black lined eye lid of the 1960’s. Think Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton!

Familiar faces today who still love Twiggy and Jeans look are Duffy and little boots, they have kept the minimalism current and make their 1960s style look effortlessly original.

  • A great base is so important, we can see that Twiggy always had a porcelain complexion, however for this look pick a tone that is your natural skin tone, these ladies were never fake tanned! Try Jane Iredale’s Liquid Minerals for those of you who want more coverage and Dream Tint if you prefer a lighter base. Make sure the tone you choose is perfectly matched, this is natural skin at its best.
  • For eyes, Jane Iredale’s Black Liquid Eye-Liner is a must for any 1960’s eye make-up! For extra experimentation try Jane Iredale’s Gold Liquid Eyeliner to use with the black. Using both liners whilst leaving a small gap in between brings this classic style into the 10’s! And has even been seen on autumn winter 2010/11 catwalks! If you prefer an eyeshadow to play with, try Jane Iredale’s Opal Crush, this is a gorgeous shade of pearl and gives an iridescent gleam. This can be used over the eye lid before applying liquid eye-liner.
  • Lips should be barely coloured but not nude (nude lips were very 1970’s) for a great pinky gloss try Jane Iredale Just Gloss in Tourmaline. It isn’t quite clear but not quite pink, so it will give a great shine and slight colour plump!

Enjoy!

Muse of the Week- Giselle Bundchen

August 25th, 2010 by Cath

Roberto Cavalli is this year celebrating his 20th anniversary and who better to be the face of his campaign than Giselle, the once most highly paid supermodel in the world. She’s post baby and looking AMAZING, but her hair was by my far my favourite part. The golden locks never seem to really change and we can see why, what a beauty!

Some of the best products to achieve her look are from the Wella High Hair range; The Wella High Hair Styling Moose would be great after washing for extra volume for your blow dry. Or to create a more natural hold and give body to the hair try very appropriately named Add some body.

The movement range is also perfect for this look, why not try Curl Energy for moisturized and shiny curls with great hold! Although Giselle’s hair is not curly, to achieve volume and windswept hair. Finish off with Marrakesh Oil, this non-greasy oil will leave hair looking shiny and healthy even if it isn’t! And is a great final touch for all hair styling. For an even better blow dry than your own why not come in to see Zackia, a blow dry is only £17 and is guaranteed to last for days!!

Giselle is of course famous for her bronze Brazilian skin and her styling in this makes the most out of it. Why not try our critically acclaimed He-Shi range, we stock all He-Shi products, including the fab bronzer! Click here too see more!

Wella High Hair for Men

August 24th, 2010 by Cath

Celebrating our new Wella hair care line, here are a few of our favourite male celebrities & how they get their looks!

George Lamb is the King of sexy, floppy hair and has reworked grey into a contemporary colour, that we should look forward to! Products great for the George look are Bouncy Dip. This gives great hold for any style but a great elastic texture. Brilliant Affair will give the shine George is so famous for, it gives hair a great glossy shine.

David Schwimmer keeps it simple yet dapper! His hair is short and well kept so something like Flubber would be ideal, its strong hold and keeps hair maintained.

Colin Farrell is famous for many things, but not really his hair! However we love his gaelic locks and effortless style. For this try Punk Chic, its great for finger dipping texture styling! Or why not try Designer Spray after styling for a non-sticky great hold.

On top of these elements products are masterfully organised in range of hold-factor…

  • Natural Hold
  • Light Hold

  • Ultra Hold

This means every hair type and style desire is attended to! Wella High Hair uses styling products with a multi-protect formula and pro vitamin B5 which strengthens and improves hair structure. Although the range is fairly extensive, I have picked the best from each category!

From the VOLUME range I love Add Some Body, its great hold and makes curls look naturally bouncy, not stiff. It isn’t too sticky either, just great smooth shiny hold!

In the MOVEMENT range, Curl Artist is another lovely product, it is best used by spritzing onto hair before using GHD’s or curlers to curl hair, again it leaves hair flexible yet perfectly styled.

In STYLE & STRAIGHT, Sleek Wonder is handy for every kind of use, from formal occasions to your holiday back bag. It tames the hair from root to tip leaving it soft and supple.

FREESTYLE can be used for both women’s and men’s hair; Crackle Wax is great as it has excellent hold with anti-frizz, it also crackles and pops in your hand!

7 Decades of Glamour- 1950’s

August 24th, 2010 by Cath

In today’s installment of our glamour through the ages special, we will look at 1950’s style!  The 1950’s was a time of female revolution, girls were curvier & more glamorous than ever before, with thanks to the likes of Marilyn Monroe. This was the first time colour was used, techni-colour was now on the map!  The make-up was essentially still very 40’s but the bursts of colour made this look very different. Block black eyes were still common, this time accentuated with teals and turqs. For today’s inspiration think Amy Winehouse and style wise even Madonna in her recent Louis Vuitton campaign.

To achieve the perfect 1950’s look here a few top tips and great products!

All these great products are available by clicking on the links in this post and at our Didsbury Store.

Hair School

August 21st, 2010 by Cath

Top Knots

We always love a good bun, this style has stood the test of time and is constantly being reinvented! We’ve seen these on the catwalks of YSL and ERDEM, while Kate Bosworth and Jessica Alba have looked fabulous with the same style.

  • Firstly try this with freshly washed hair using Tigi Your Highness Thickening Gel and fasten the hair in a high pony using good elastic bands.
  • Try a paddle shaped brush from our Regenico’s range to back comb and volumise the hair in the pony tail to add volume to your bun. Start at the top and brush hair out using large circular movements.
  • Next wrap the hair around the base of the pony tail and pin into place, you can use as many slides as needed, depending on how thick your hair is.
  • set the bun using Tigi Your Highness Firm Hold spray, a little will do the job!
  • my top tip here is to gently massage your bun to give it movement and loosen it up, and encourage a few not too many fly away’s, stiff and prim is not the look we are going for!
  • Finally Enjoy!

Cashmere Skin with Jane Iredale

August 21st, 2010 by Cath

September’s Elle has devoted a whole editorial to how important great skin is this season. Skin should be ‘healthy, expensive and sculpted in a warm palette of honey caramel and cream.’ We should always aim to stay fairly close to our natural skin tones for an authentic glow. Cheek bones gleam and lips should be plumped (why not try Jane Iredale Lip Plump, they come in a range of shades and act as a quick fix to get Angelina Jolie lips)! My favourite images were of the real life china doll-esque VIKTOR and ROLF models, their skin was almost masque like it was so perfect and luminous.

From the recent photos the model’s skin caught my eye, there seemed to be pain staking effort  purely on skin tone, complexion and highlight. Jane Iredale offers some stunning products purely for this area. For a great under eye concealer try Jane Iredale Active Light under eye concealer, perfectly bright eyes add so much to a porcelain face. For an even better concealer for smaller areas is Jane Iredale’s Disappear with Green Tea Extra. The most fantastic base I would always opt for is Jane Iredale Dream Tint with an inbuilt SPF 15. Finally Jane Iredale’s Amazing Matte Powder is amazing for a flawless finish, without looking caked!

But what did everyone do in LONDON…?

PRADA presented perfect complexions with an understated sheen; try Jane Iredale Dream Tint SPF 15 for radiant glowing coverage.

GILES used toffee tones for their models, a great toffee is Jane Iredale’s Pure Pressed Blush in Bronze. It provides a deep brown tone without looking artificial.

JULIAN MACDONALD used pale peach blush warming up the complexion. For this I recommend my blusher of choice Jane Iredale’s Pure Pressed Blush in Cooper Wind.

VERSACE used skin flushed with fresh colour combined with radiant skin. For a flawless finish with a radiant base try Jane Iredale’s Absence Oil Control Primer and Jane Iredale Pommisst Spray to set the minerals and leave your skin glowing!
